5 Tips to Grow Your Beard…Naturally!

All around the world in many cultures having a thick and full beard has been associated as symbol of power and manliness. Still to this day, a man with a well-groomed beard is viewed as being masculine, mature, sexy, and stylish!

But what about the men who struggle to grow a full beard? Better yet, those who can't seem to grow a beard at all? But we have you covered.

In this article, we'll break down everything you need to know in order to grow the best beard of your life—whether you’re a first-time or a seasoned beard king. Of course, we can't promise that each man will grow a ragged and glistening beard, however here are a couple of tips that will help you grow more facial hair—or if nothing else put in your best effort.

Let's get started!

5 Tips to Grow a Beard

1. Set a goal

Before you do anything, set a realistic goal for how long you want your beard to be. Growing a beard requires lots patience and consistency, especially in the beginning stage.

If you already a beard but it’s not very dense or patchy, then your goal should be focusing on growing a thicker, fuller, denser beard.

If you currently have a very weak or almost non-existent beard growth naturally, then your goal should be to stimulate new growth and activating dormant facial hair follicles.

Having a goal in mind, or a beard style that you’re aiming for will help keep you focused and motivated.

2. Give it time

As mention above, growing a beard requires lots patience and consistency. We cannot stress that enough. The biggest mistake many beard-growers make is losing hope and giving up too soon.

Know that not all facial hairs grow at the same rate (resulting in patchiness), so you won't know the full extent of your beard until it has had time to fill in. If you're growing for the first time ever, give yourself 4-6 weeks at minimum: No trimming or shaping. Just gently brushing and using beard oil. During this time, you will see just how thick your beard could grow.

Note: Age & genetics plays a major factor: Well into your 30's and 40's is when your beard tends to grow the thickest and fastest, so if your beard is still patchy in your early 20's, don't lose hope. Wait a few years and try again!

3. Keep Your Beard Nourished

Like any other body part, your beard needs the proper nutrients and care to grow in healthy and strong. At the very least, make it a priority to use a natural beard oil like our Premium Beard Oil as soon as you start growing. Be sure to build a beard care routine consisting of beard shampoo, conditioner, butter and/or oil, etc to keep your beard in tip top condition….and most importantly use products made with natural ingredients that promote beard growth!

Most products on the market are full of synthetic chemicals that can cause irritation, dryness, and breakage. Using natural products from day one helps keep your beard soft, fully nourish for optimal growth, and keeps the skin underneath your beard hydrated.

Try our Premium Beard King Collection which includes all the products you need to start your beard care routine. Each product is handcrafted using natural ingredients infused with Ayurvedic herbs to boost beard growth!

4. Get Plenty of Sleep and Exercise

Testosterone plays a critical role in growing both hair and follicles, and production of this male hormone relies on a healthy lifestyle. To keep testosterone high, be sure to get at least eight hours of sleep every night, and exercise regularly: Both weight loss and strength training can help boost testosterone levels.

Also, minimizing stress is important, as cortisol -the stress hormone has been found to reduce testosterone levels can also constrict blood vessels, causing hairs to receive fewer nutrients leading to slower growth.

5. Eat a Healthy Diet and Take Vitamin Supplements

A balanced diet full of protein, vitamins, and minerals helps strengthen your beard while maximize its growth potential. Hair consists of protein, so ensuring that you get enough in your diet is essential. A lack of protein can make hair strands brittle and weak.

Also, vitamins B, C, and D  as well as zinc, iron, and Mucuna Pruriens, helps keep your beard healthy and continuously growing.

Understanding the Beard Growth Cycle

All hair growth—beard hair included—goes through three phases in the growth cycle: anagen, catagen, and telogen.

The anagen phase
The anagen phase of the hair growth cycle represents the "active" growing stage. In this phase the cells in the root of hair follicles divide at a rapid rate resulting in the hair strands to grow a half-inch, or more, per month. The anagen  phase usually lasts for 2 to 6 years, perhaps even more. The length of your anagen phase is determined by your genetics.

The catagen phase
Catagen is the shortest of the 3 phases and represents the “transitional” part of the cycle. Hair growth stops during the catagen phase, and hair strands become separated from the hair follicles and attach to the skin. Additionally, the blood supply to the hair cuts off completely. Hair that’s in the catagen phase has stopped growing and is no longer in the active stage. This typically lasts for 2 to 3 weeks.

The telogen phase
Last is the telogen phase. During the phase, incoming hair stands pushes the old hair out—eventually causing it to fall out. While the old hair sheds, the follicle returns to the anagen phase to start the growth cycle over. The telogen phase typically lasts for 2 to 4 months.
